Daffodil — March's Flower
March
also Jonquil
Spring
The daffodil (Narcissus) rises from a bulb each early spring, its ring of petals framing a trumpet-shaped centre in clear yellow; planted once, it returns and naturalises for years. Brazil is a classic source. A fresh, spring-toned keepsake.
What the daffodil says
In the Victorian language of flowers, meanings were a shared code — close enough to look up, personal enough to feel chosen. The daffodil traditionally carries:
- Traditionally a flower of new beginnings and rebirth
- Associated with hope and joy
March keeps a second flower too — the jonquil — for the months where one bloom never felt like enough.
The month around it
A March birthday sits under Pisces and Aries, alongside the month's stone (Aquamarine) and its full moon, the Worm Moon. The flower is the soft-spoken one of the three.
