The November full moon. Two competing explanations circulate and neither has been settled: that it marks beavers finishing their lodges before the freeze, or that it marks the season for setting beaver traps. Both are plausible, both are repeated as fact, and the disagreement is itself a fair summary of how much of this list is guesswork dressed as tradition.
